Looking for fun things to do this week and weekend? We have you covered with a nice selection of events for all ages.

May is National Water Safety Month and we have shared two great articles. One is a link to an article on the signs of drowning which is extremely informative and very worth your time, the other article talks all about water safety in detail.

Sesame Street Live, "Elmo Makes Music" is coming June 15th and 16th to the Palace Theatre and our giveaway of a family four pack to your choice of the four shows continues through Wednesday, May 22nd at 8pm. If you didn't enter last week, you can enter this week by commenting HERE.

Elmo Makes Music is coming to Palace Theatre, June 15th & 16th!

Fun drop-in class for kids 10 to 20 months (younger and older too). Each week they will focus on a few specific shapes, colors, sounds or letters. There will be music, painting and stories too.  There are eight sessions (you can do as many as you like).  Class fee also gets you unlimited play the day of the class.

These events are a fun way for preschoolers and toddlers to get a chance to explore, learn about animals and make a new friends.  Designed especially to help engage children and learn through play. You can stop by any time between 10-12pm. Today's event is at My Barn, and is a special storytime! These events will be held through May 23rd, every Tuesday and Thursday at different locations in the Zoo.

Wednesday, May 22 through Thursday, May 23 - Creative Minds Open Art Studio

Creative Minds Open Art Studio is an art studio experience geared towards small hands using both free-play and guided crafts. Children will have access to the open studio, dramatic play area, and music nook, as well as full use of all available art supplies and resources. Studio hours are: Wednesday and Thursday from 9:30 to 11:00 AM.

Thursday, May 23 - Piccadilly's Be A Bike Mechanic

Kids will have fun learning how to be a bike mechanic for the afternoon.  A roll bike shop service team member will lead the kids in learning to patch a tube to building building a bike. Friday, May 24 through Sunday, May 26 - Day out with Thomas at the Cuyahoga Valley Scenic Railroad

Thomas the Train lovers will love this! You can take a 30 minute train ride in a train lead by a Thomas the Tank Engine. In addition to the train rides, kids can meet Sir Topham Hatt, and enjoy Thomas-themed activities including arts and crafts, temporary tattoos, train table fun, see a working model train set, and more.  Tickets are selling out fast and I have a $2 off discount code for you!!  We've been to this event a couple of times and our kids enjoyed it, when they were huge Thomas the Train fans.  It's about 2 hours north of Columbus.

Friday, May 24 - Firefly Play Cafe: Painting Fun!

Enjoy this modern indoor play place with its special painting time where kids can paint and get messy, and you don't have to clean the kitchen afterwards. Then, after (or before), you can enjoy playing inside this super fun play space.

Friday, May 24 through Monday, May 27 - Westerville's Field of Heroes

The fifth annual Field of Heroes opens Friday, May 24th at 1pm. This is an amazing view to see, if you haven't yet visited - it's a display of 3,000 American Flags, which you can walk among reading the dedications and reflecting upon their personal heroes. Along with visiting, there will be many other activities, like the opening ceremony on Saturday, reading of hero names, free concert (7pm Sat.), Field of Heroes 5K Run/Walk (Sun.), another reading of names, tours, flag retirement, and closing ceremony (Mon.). You can also pledge and purchase flags. Field opens on Friday and closes on Monday. See schedule of events HERE.

Friday, May 24 - Franklin Park Conservatory: Kid's Yoga Play!

Taught by a certified Yoga instructor, kids can build self-confidence, enhance motor skills, increase focus and concentration all through kid-friendly yoga poses, sequences and movement.  There will be creative yoga games and imaginative crafts too. These are offered the second and fourth Fridays. (registration is required).

Police cars and firetrucks will be there to touch and climb into, as well as fire house demos, and a puppet show.

Friday, May 24 - Bexley's The Main Event: Family Fun!

Each month Bexley will host a FREE family-fun event with many activities and a free outdoor movie.  May's event includes a concert by the popular children's band The Shazzbots, Columbus Zoo's animal visit, crafts from piccadilly, storytime from Bexley Library and yard games Bexley Parks and Recreation, Jack Hanna look-a-like contest, zoo-themed restaurant specials and much more!  The free movie is Madagascar 3 and starts at 9pm on Capital's lawn. This looks like an amazing event!

Are your kids new readers or needing practice?  Does reading out loud make them whine?  Sign them up to read to Burgh, a gentle certified therapy dog.  It's less intimidating and much more fun!  You need to register your child for a 10 minute slot reading to Burgh.  We met Burgh and he's big and so sweet!!!  Please note, there is currently a waiting list but I met the trainer a couple weeks ago and he said to always put yourself on the waiting list as if he doesn't have plans he will extend his time to help the kids.  Burgh loves kids!

This week's movie is Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory (1971).  The Gateway Film Center has once again partnered with the Columbus Metropolitan Library to feature movies that have been adapted from literary classics.  The mission is to encourage children to read, while also providing an opportunity to watch watch these classic family films on the big screen.  This Book to Film free movie series starts May 25th and goes through July 31st - we will feature all of them in our newsletter/calendar.

Monday, May 27 - Gateway Film Center's From Book to Film FREE Movie Series: Willy Wonka

This week's movie is Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory (1971).  The Gateway Film Center has once again partnered with the Columbus Metropolitan Library to feature movies that have been adapted from literary classics.  The mission is to encourage children to read, while also providing an opportunity to watch watch these classic family films on the big screen.  This Book to Film free movie series starts May 25th and goes through July 31st - we will feature all of them in our newsletter/calendar.
